Greek company Aktor, which is building Lot 4 of the Struma motorway, is to sign an annex to the contract by Friday, or have the agreement cancelled, according to Bulgaria’s caretaker Deputy Prime Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva.
Zaharieva explains in an interview for 24 Hours Daily that that Bulgaria will start a procedure to terminate the contract unless Aktor returns the annex signed by Friday.
The motorway section from Sandanski to Kulata was supposed to be completed a long time ago.
The deadline was first extended by 200 days and then by another 52 days due to the rainy weather this summer, according to dnevnik.bg.
An inspection revealed recently that no construction works were underway at the site.
Greek Aktor, the company tasked with building the motorway section, is to sign an annex obliging it to complete one of the lanes by end-2014 and the other one by March 2015.
In her interview for 24 Hours daily, Zaharieva also emphasizes the importance of the finalization of the Hemus motorway for the economy of northeastern Bulgaria.
