“American Standard, santaryware producer, plans the building of a third factory in Bulgaria in 2003,” Vassil Kunev, American Standard Director for Eastern Europe and Bulgaria, said. The condition is that its daughter companies Vidima and Ideal Standard increase from 90% to 100% the use of their production capacities. Since the beginning of its operations in 1992 the US Corporation has invested more than USD 96 M in Bulgaria. Its sales this year are expected to amount to USD 68 M, which is by USD 12 M more in comparison with last year’s. 84% of the output of Vidima and Ideal Standard is exported, with 30% to the European Union markets. Exports to Central and Eastern Europe and Russia are expected to increase this year. American Standard representatives are currently negotiating with big foreign input suppliers for the opening of their production facilities in Bulgaria. The reduced transportation costs will lead to a decrease in the prime cost of the Vidima and Ideal Standards products by 5% to 10%.
