Bulgaria's Prime Minister, Boyko Borisov, has been selected to received the 2009 Award of the Taxpayers Association of Europe.
Bulgaria’s Prime Minister is awarded for his efforts to improve the taxation and investment environment in Bulgaria, and to overcome the country’s issues which had resulted in the loss of EU funds and lack of trust on part of the EU institutions, according to the Secretary General of the Association, Michael Jaeger, as cited by the Bulgarian National Radio.
“We have a very interesting combination in face of Boyko Borisov. He fights corruption, and at the same time is trying to reduce bureaucracy and the wasting of state money. That is why we want to give him our support because for us Bulgaria is a wonderful country with great potential, and we strongly believe that if someone can manage to overcome corruption and the other issues that hinder Bulgaria’s development, this is exactly Boyko Borisov,” Jaeger has stated.
The Taxpayers Association of Europe, an NGO, decides who to present with its award after nominations and voting.
In the past few years, TAE Award has been presented to the Prime Minister of Luxembourg, Jean-Claude Juncker, the Director-General of OLAF Franz-Hermann Bruener, and the EU Commissioner for Competition, Neelie Kroes.
