Sofia's Mayor Yordanka Fandakova has pledged to install CCTVs and better lighting in the popular Borisova Gradina park in the city's downtown, where a brutal murder was recently committed.

Speaking with municipal officials, Fandakova requested the implementation of adequate measures concerning the popular park, which is badly lighted and is considered dangerous at night.

Currently, a project is being prepared by the Sofia municipality to secure lighting on the vast park's more central alleys.

In addition, Fandakova has demanded that double as many police patrols be located in Borisova Gradina as there currently are.

The body of 28-year-old Bulgarian Yana Krasteva was discovered Sunday in the Borisova Gradina park. The young woman is said to have been raped, brutally beaten and strangled.

A total of seventeen people have been interrogated in the murder case, Darik radio reported Friday, citing their own, undisclosed police sources.
