Sixteen Bulgarian regions are under code orange Saturday, the National Institute for Meteorology and Hydrology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) declared.
Code orange means intense weather situations with potential damage, injuries and casualties and is declared for temperatures between 38 and 41 degrees in cases of dangerous heat.
The regions under code orange are: Vidin, Vratsa, Montana, Pleven, Veliko Tarnovo, Lovech, Ruse, Stara Zagora, Yambol, Sliven, Kardzhali, Haskovo, Plovdiv, Pazardzhik, Blagoevgrad and Kyustendil. The mercury there is expected to hit the 39 degrees mark.
The remaining 12 regions are under code yellow, which also means potentially dangerous weather. The temperature there is expected to reach 36 degrees.
