Police have determined that the sack of cocaine that washed ashore at Bulgaria's posh Golden Sands resort on Wednesday costs close to BGN 7 M.
Expert probes show that the cocaine is of a very high quality, allowing it to be diluted to double its weight before hitting the black market, Darik News revealed.
The 23 packets weighed 24.5 kilos in total, each measuring about 20 by 30 centimetres. One gram of cocaine costs about BGN 280 on the market after it has been diluted, so the estimates are that the sack found by tourists on the beach would cost about BGN 6.86 M.
Police are still trying to determine where the unexpected catch came from, who tried to smuggle it, and where were they shipping it off to.
The sack threw Varna police in frenzy as it washed out at the beach before Golden Sands' Astoria hotel. Tests later showed that the white powdery substance was indeed cocaine of the highest purity.
