The oil spill in the Danube, which reached Bulgarian waters from the Serbian sector upriver, is believed to have come from a punctured fuel tank at the Port of Prahovo.
The announcement was made by the radio and television centre in Negotin earlier today.
The court in Negotin raised charges against an unknown perpetrator in connection with the Monday accident when there was a leak of oil products into the Danube.
The oil reportedly came from the oil terminal of the Yugopetrol company near Prahovo.
Bulgaria has spent a couple of days worriedly following the slick as it makes its way down the Danube and authorities say that the oil has polluted the banks of the river.
Luckily, there were no incidents in Vidin's thermal plant and the Nuclear Power Plant in Kozloduy, as no oil was allowed in the plants' circulation systems.
